2020 Can't Stop Santa
2020 Can't Stop Santa
Listen up children,
Large, small, young & old.
For this Christmas story
has never been told.
It's scary, it's sad, & it's sweet;
Santa caught Covid,
It knocked him off his feet.
This year has been strange,
& way out of the norm.
Even his elves are sick,
isolating in their dorm.
Poor Mrs. Claus
was beside herself,
so she called on Buddy,
The lonely elf.
Buddy stayed healthy,
From being shunned.
Now that they needed him,
He'd show everyone.
Mrs. Claus made her
Special candy cane soup.
Buddy delivered it
to every elf group.
Soup made with something Special, glitter & mint,
Don't ask for the recipe,
Mrs. Claus won't give a hint.
But she cooked it slow,
& made it with love.
She said a prayer,
receiving blessings from above.
In bed, sick elves wondered
How Buddy could be so kind,
After how they treated him,
Yet he didn't even mind.
Buddy tried to tell them, but
They didn't seem to hear it.
He showed the difference;
They felt the holiday;
He felt The Holy Spirit.
He said, "Love & forgiveness,
Is something we all need."
"Treating others the way
I want to be treated" is my creed.
They thought about it as
They drifted off to sleep.
While a blanket of snow fell,
Three feet deep.
Buddy hammered, pounded,
Drilled holes for screws,
He sang while he worked to
Ward off the Christmas blues.
He cut, sewed, then finally
painted the very last toy.
Hoping to save Christmas,
& bring everyone joy.
Mrs. Claus wouldn't leave
Santa's bedside.
He tried to get up. She threatened.
"I'll have you hog-tied!"
"But Mama, It's crunch time.
I've got the most important
job to do."
"No, mine is" she firmly replied.
It's taking care of you."
"Now get some sleep
While I knit you a face mask."
Tomorrow, I'll send you off
with cinnamon tea in your flask."
Buddy was weary come morning
He never heard about
The storm warning.
He still had the sleigh to load,
& reindeer to feed.
With all that snow,
you know who he called to lead!
But Clarice needed Rudolf;
she was birthing their first fawn.
"Could it get any worse?"
Thought Buddy.
It was almost dawn.
Tired & beat, he felt they let
All the children down.
Little did he know,
Rudolf sent a message to the North Pole's town.
In the workshop,
Buddy sadly cleaned up his mess.
Then came a knock from stranded trucker, Saying,
"Here, give Santa my GPS."
"I won't need it,
I can't make it home.
My family's disappointed,
They'll be spending Christmas alone."
Mrs. Claus overheard, &
Invited the trucker inside.
"Let's get you fed & cleaned up,
Before you take your sleigh ride".
The trucker asked,
"What about Santa, is he ok?
"After serving 1740 Christmas's;
He deserves a vay cay!"
While the trucker nervously
tried to back out.
Mrs. Claus measured as Buddy handed him the list on his route.
"But I've never been in a sleigh, much less driven one."
"The reindeer know," said Buddy. "They'll help you get it done!"
From around the corner,
"What's this I hear? No one
drives my sleigh & reindeer."
"Papa, I told you to stay in bed,
& I didn't ask."
"I did. Now go fetch my flask."
Get one for our trucker friend too."
"Help me deliver & you'll be home,
soon as we're through."
The trucker's eyes lit up,
Excited, he'll be back
Before his children awake,
He was honored to run
With Santa, for goodness sake!
The other elves were finally
Feeling top shelf.
With a pat on the back,
they told Buddy, "Rest friend.
Take care of yourself."
They whistled while passing
Presents down their long line,
Santa told Buddy, "Because of You, Christmas is saved & Everything's fine!"
Done waxing the runners,
"You're all set to go!" Squeaked little, elf Carmin.
So, the trucker reached in
To plug in his Garmin.
Santa & the trucker waived
As they pulled out.
"Merry Christmas!", all of
North Pole heard them shout.
With a swirling lift of snow,
They went on their way,
Circled the moon, then set off to save another Christmas day!
