Girl from Claxton bay

I woke up this morning and brush my teeth
And sat in the gallery looking out for the doubles man to pass
And when he did, I stopped him and buy 5 doubles and a homemade orange juice

The doubles were hot and tasty
And nothing tastes better than a Trinidad homemade orange juice
So I sat there on the front porch just enjoying my morning

After I let the food digest and I went to take a shower
And I got dressed and came outside
Roger had gone to work and lites wasn't home
So I walk out the road and got in a taxi to san Fernando

I was on vacation from New York
And it has been a few years since I've been back home
So everything was kind of new to me
You know the city has some new buildings and the scenery had changed quite a bit

I was single, but I wasn't thinking of meeting a girl or was Looking for love
So what happened next was quite a shock to me
I was walking down on high street and stood for a minute to look around and I just happened to look across the street

And then it happened and It was love at first sight
When I saw her my heart just started to beat like a drum
She had just come out of Ishmael khan book store
She stopped a car and got into a taxi for Claxton bay

I couldn't believe my eyes and what I just saw this girl was so beautiful
And she just took my breath away
I wasn’t looking for love, I wasn't even thinking of a girl
But love has a mind of its own and love found me today

So I keep staring at her through the window
As the taxi maneuvers through the traffic and drives away
And for the rest of the day, I couldn’t stop thinking of this girl
I wish to meet her but all I know is that she lives somewhere in Claxton bay

I went back home that evening
And I just couldn't get her beautiful face off my mind
I sat down with the boys taking some drinks under the shed
But I was thinking of her all the time

I told the boys what had happened today
How I would like to meet this girl I saw
But that answer I got, I didn't like it, but it was the truth
Claxton bay is a big village and If I don't have a picture to show people to ask if they know her, then it would be impossible to locate her

So I told them lets drive around the area
And we will just look out for her
But that didn't help us at all
So we took a few drinks of white oak and come back home

I accept that I would never get to know her
Get to meet her and hold her hands
Tell her how she made me feel in my heart
To kiss her for the first time as I tell her how much I love her
I accepted that she would always have my heart without her even knowing that I existed

And I know that some of you would do things like
" How can you love a woman by just looking at her from a distance
And in reality, it does seem quite unrealistic
But I did fall in love at first sight
It is what it is

It was late evening now  and the rain started falling heavily outside
And the lightening was flash was so bright
I couldn't help myself from thinking of her
I wonder where she is and I hope that she was safe tonight

I was sitting with roger on the front porch
And we were drinking some cold stag and Carib beers
And we were just talking about the old days
And reminiscing of our younger years

The next morning I sat reading the Guardian newspapers
There was a few very interesting article
About the sun setting over in china
And rainy season in Malaysia
And about the moon over the Serengeti
In the heart of Africa

There was a big snowstorm
In New York too
That covered the City yesterday
And there was the girl I love
Somewhere in the heart of Claxton bay

We decided to go to maracas beach this morning
And we sat down to have bake and shark
And I couldn't help looking for her in every face that sees
And then we headed back home as the place gets dark

I don’t know where she lives
And I don't know her name
But in my heart, she lights a fire
She lit an eternal flame

The days are getting shorter now
And I am leaving to go back home
I pull my bags through the airport
But my heart was somewhere in Claxton bay

When I reach back in new york the winter  was very cold
And I can feel the chill down to my bone
Meanwhile, the sun shines over Trinidad
And my neice Rianna is eating an ice cream cone

children are playing games in the park
And there is the girl I fell in love with
Somewhere in the village of Claxton bay
