A Young Girl and Her Hound...
#WritcoPoemPrompt115
Threw out old boxes,
Regrets and photographs,
Empty pockets and lockets,
Deleted memories and unfulfilled promises,
Never looked back at the failed dreams.
A decade of love, of trust and of dependence,
All gone in the span of a heartbeat.
How to carry on is unclear.
But what is certain is the pain in this chest.
Rid myself of all mementos I did
Yet it proved useless as I sobbed
Ha, you done gone and left!
Leaving a paw print on my pillow like I shouldn't fret.
It was me and you against the world.
A young girl and her loyal hound.
You couldn't speak, and I couldn't howl.
Still, we understood each other, no translator at all
A wild animal they declared
Shot you down in dread
Left my wolf and me alone in the snow
But they didn't know you had the most beautiful soul
I scattered our belongings around the place
Even shipped some halfway across the world to meet more of the race.
Perhaps our story will inspire some kids
Educate them and prevent them from doing doomed things.
Don't worry, I've settled it all.
Wait for me, I'll be real quick
Let's start our next life in a different place.
