People have told me I am sweet like lemonade but most of the time, I feel like a lemon
I am sour when you bite into me
I burn your eyes with my juice
And I will make your chapped lips hurt no matter how many times you rinse them in the sink but you continue to run your lips under the cool water and wash your mouth out because you don't want to deal with the bitterness I leave behind.
I am sweet like lemonade only because you have cut me up and squeezed out all my juice until I have nothing left to give.
You throw my skin into the trash as if I am nothing but a carcass on the roadside.
I am sweet like lemonade because you have added sugar and water to hide my bitterness and my peelings are forgotten because they are evidence of the lemon I once was.
I hate being sweet like lemonade for I am no longer full.
Still, you drink me up until all that's left is the discarded peel you call useless.
