Many times I heard, you won't see the age eighteen..
At the age of twenty-one, I'd reflected on all I'd seen..
Sitting in the penitentiary, seemingly wasting away..
I began to acquire knowledge, day after day..
Education is one thing, but life skills are another..
Within the walls of incarceration, there's no father, no mother..
Calenders made and calenders marked..
Days and months passing by, the hardening of my heart..
Many books read, and many letters wrote..
Many days just spent trying to cope..
Wondering what happened to all my family and friends..
If I'm always losing, I wonder who wins..
Those were the thoughts of an insecure child..
It's taken some time, but growing up takes awhile..
It all started out with the notion, that I was destined to fail..
What they didn't know is, that I'm Determined To Prevail..
