Guilty Gallows
We were a complete sonnet,
Full of love and hope,
But our buoyant verses
Got hanged one by one,
Until only a single couplet was left.
And what of hope? None...
Now we're even tired of words,
We've turned into a blank letter,
Just like the blank signed cheque
Granted by our generous fate,
With infinite miseries to lend,
And never-ending sorrows to spend,
All in all without a due date.
Here in the land of Persian cats,
All eaten by bloodthirsty rats,
These disastrous days,
Waking up has become
The greatest of nightmares
In its own...
While we keep praying
For another dark dawn
To never come,
Wishing to hide ourselves
In a corner of darkness' embrace,
Praying we could sleep forever,
But another day breaks,
Along with our hearts,
Startled awake,
With the heart-shattering cries
Of another grieving mother
Who has just lost
Her innocent child to guilty gallows.
Like her long dress,
Our day also turns black,
With all the deadly memories back,
And a question repeats in our benighted minds:
Will this sad story ever end?
But night falls along with the cries that die,
While the rest desperately try
To take refuge in the fugitive sleep.
