Our Children's Fears
Can you hear that?
It's the cries of our children.
Who are scared and unsure,
of what their future holds.

Being placed with total strangers, to scared to ask any questions.
Or just to young to understand, what happened to mom and dad.

All alone in the dark, as one by one the lights go out.
You say a prayer to yourself.
( dear lord if you can hear me, please take me home.
I miss my family, and I don't want them to worry. )

As you lay awake listening to strangers talking about you.
Tears in your eyes, you whisper I just want to go home.

As day breaks and the sun rises, your ordered to get up and dressed.

You know you must obey.
At the breakfast table, you are informed of how their ship is run.

You feel like you are sinking right before their eyes.
can they see your fears, do they even care?
Why won't they just let me go?
I don't belong here.

As days melt into weeks, you ask yourself if your parents ever know where you are?
Oh how worried they must be.

Your thinking maybe tomorrow, I will see them.
But tomorrow comes and goes, with no word from your parents.

In the back of your mind your asking, what did I do that was so bad?
Why can't I just go home?
Do mom and dad just not want me?
I wish someone, would tell me.

Then one day your told, you get to visit your parents.
But only for one hour, is that understood?
It's been many days now since you have seen your mom and dad.
You didn't hear the rules about the visit.
Your just so excited your going home again.
Oh how you have missed your family.

You are shuffled into a small stuffy room.
With lots of toys, and a huge mirror.
But best of all there is mom and dad.
You run into the room as the door closes behind.

Mom, Dad, where have you been?
Why didn't you come for me?
Your face wet with tears, of anger and happiness.

Your mother opens her arms wide, as you run to her.
Knowing how much you have missed her touch.
The feel of her arms holding you.
Dad leans in to and squeezes you tight, as he says I love you.

You can't figure out why you haven't all headed for home yet.
Must be waiting for your baby sister to arrive.
So you just ask, where is sissy at?
Isn't she going home with us?
As mom tries hard to fight back the tears.
She says sissy has already come and gone.
Just as she speaks those words, the door opens.
And a strange lady says time's up.
Say your goodbyes, and let's go.

I freeze
What does she mean our goodbyes?
NO NO NO!!!!!
This can't be happening.
Mom Dad please, I want to come home.
I'm sorry for whatever I did, please don't make me go away again.
As the strange lady calls to someone else, going to need help with this one.
You scream, why do you hate me to your parents???

The strange lady enters the room with two more strangers.
She barks orders to the other two.
Grab her and remove her from this room. NOW!

They drug you kicking and screaming, out to your parents.
Why don't you want me?
Why can't I come home?
What did I do, that was so bad?

As your placed into a vehicle, to be transported back to what they call your safe place.
Your mind is racing, along side your broken heart

You feel unwanted and ashamed.
Yet Nobody has ever said what you did, to deserve this.
Can't understand why mom and dad, allowed these strangers to take me away. Without even a fight.

As weeks turn into months.
And day by day your heart, starts to turn cold and hard.
But with no explanation on why.
You turn your anger towards your parents.
Knowing in your own mind it had to be their fault.

You remember perfectly well, even if you were just 10 when they threw you away.
Two years have passed now you have a different name.
And those strangers now call you family.

[ just a quick note. when children are ripped away from their parents and families, they blame themselves first. feeling like it was their fault. and I assure you that is never the case. but what happens when children are not allowed to know what's going on? they again start off by blaming themselves, but as time goes by and they still don't understand. then 9 times out of 10, they start blaming their families. does the department correct this state of mind? your answer is simple NO. so when they have no place else to vent their anger, parents and families are the target. and it's not their fault, nor the fault of the parents, that the department stands as is (were not to blame) but we the people know the real truth.]

love your children with every fiber of your body.
