Awakening
He forgets to remember; stupefied
‘Til memories blend into future visions
Present moment beckons, he inhales
Releasing attachment to should’s, could’s

He reminds himself of a melting ice cube
A form relinquished, slow-motion waterfall
Droplets merging into a small, flowing river
As a rainless summer beckons forest fires

He notices changes via a pond’s reflection
Quietly contemplating the ripple effect
A duck waits patiently for his offering;
Yet they caution pouring from an empty cup

He remembers to fill his cup, for today
With gratitude, spring-water, forgiveness
Coals of the past pouring into the ice-pond
Stress of future flames subdued by the river

He does remember, he does dream
Though for now: he lives
