Gift of Kindness

On a cold night, she sat
Embedded in a warm embrace
By her ripped blanket
She shivered as the winds blew
Like the sails in a sea
Dancing with glee

She looked around
The busy lane
As a heavy tear-drop
Wrestled with her pain

She shivered again,
Diving into her day-old sandwich
Hoping someday to eat
At a five-star hotel
Enjoying a movie

Then, caught her attention
A homeless dog
Like her, too cold for a jog
He was welcomed to her spot
The spot in the corner of the sidewalk

In a heartbeat, she gave up
The last of her lunch
Which disappeared with a happy munch

It's not hard
Helping an old man up the stairs
Or praying for someone that doesn't care
The sun's face lights up
And the stars celebrate

But don't do it for applause
Do it for the way you heart once was,
Happy

Let's unbox this care
To make all aware:
It gets harder
As we climb this ladder
But hey, it's not a championship
And we don't have the option to skip

That woman on the street?
She showed what she wanted to say
Without much delay:
Kindness is a gift everyone can afford
Be assured, it will never go ignored!
