Humm Along
They know that they're loved
When they see her smile
They know that they're loved
When they're never alone for a while
They know that they're loved when every time they walk through the halls someone shouts a hello
See they know that they're loved.
Because everyday they're told so.
They know it
But they don't seem to feel it
As a kid they would jump and scream and run
As a kid they sat on their swing just having their fun
Kicking their feet and humming a song
As kid they were naive but that didn't stop them none
They ran and they said "I love you" without a trace of doubt and when someone said it back
They believed it
As a kid when someone left they felt the pain for a moment
But as a kid you don't realize what "I love you" Means
So when that kid began to grow
And they said a real "I love you" for the very first time
They smiled
When that turned over kid heard "I love you" back they didn't doubt it for a second
So they invited this love to spend just a day
To a humm a small song and wish themselves away
And they sat on a swing set waiting for some fun
They kicked their feet and waited to humm
And they waited
And waited
But their love never came along
So now they're kid that when walking the halls
When they hear a good morning
They don't feel good at all
When they're gifted hug
They sigh a breathe
They feel like they're standing
Right next to death
They're the kid who hangs their head down low in shame
Because they're given all this love but thinks it is fake
When their hand is always held
And someone's by their side
When there's no doubt about it
That someone wants them alive
When their world if caving in and the sun begins to explode
Why are they sitting their thinking
"I'm all alone"?
Because inside they're still that kid, waiting for some fun
Swinging on the swing set and humming their song
Still just waiting
For someone to humm along
If you're that kid
Alone on your swing
I'll join you and sit to feel the breeze of the spring and I'll say
"Hey, kid?
Is it okay if I sit here on this set, and humm with your song?
I dont know the tune yet, but teach me.
And I will humm along"
