Sunflower Kindred
A proud flower, highly weathered,
never carrying weight only lightly feathered.
They learned to follow the light,
because trying to live without can be a fight.
Yellow blooms mimicking their source of life,
surviving those that try to cut their growth with a knife.
The clouds may cause some wear,
but they stand tall through the times that tear.
Through the dark they persist,
and giving up hope they resist,
because no matter how dark, the sun will return,
and in the dark, strength is what the sunflowers learn.
