Smoke
I've had my heart broken a few dozen times
but this one I can't seem to get off my mind
I'm trying to pick up the pieces and wipe away the tears
and make up for the love I've wasted over the last few years

I used to keep my love close and guarded at the chest
like tobacco leaves in a hand-rolled cigarette
For the longest time, no one ever lit my fire
until you came along and sparked more in me than just desire

But lately our time has been burning to ash
like a book of matches that's down to its last
Sometimes love is just like smoke; smothering, heavy, and thick
It consumes your whole body and chokes you until your sick

Now it feels like I have just one more chance
to shine a light on this beautiful and bleak romance
So I'll dump all of the gasoline that I have left
and burn us both to the ground without a single regret

My mind constantly drifts back to the night I kissed you, as the rain fell hard
and you blackened my lungs with your sticky, sweet tar
I walked home smiling, my grin soaking wet
and then reached in my pocket to smoke another cigarette
