Leaves of Grass
Oh I hear the leaves of grass
Waving with the winds of March
Dauncing back and forth, lively
Some are yellow, much are green
Some are dry, and few have died
I see leaves of tree fall as they
Sway, fold and spin at gravity's pull.

But the leaves of grass sit so still
They are bent by that weight so ill
What a patience they must have? I thought
To be trampled upon, and yet be so calm
Yes! calm at day, and at night
Calm in the heat of summer, and with winter' plight
How so silent to hush a word, or even shout?

Then I heard the sound of a motor
And the spin of the rotor
Alas! It was the mower coming to mow,
Oh the leaves of grass! I cried
But the mower had no pity like me
The motor ran on top, cut the leaves
As one by one they fell in heaps
I saw people walking by, but no one,
Not one, ever saw the cry I heard
From the leaves of grass.

A week later I crossed paths
With the leaves of grass
Gee! What a pretty scenery
The leaves had grown again
Fresh green and better than the first
I saw the rays of sun colored the setting
Painting with green the leaves of grass
I felt the crispness as I went
And slept on top of them in the shade,
For I. Yes I, had fallen to sleep
With the leaves of grass .
