The boy, Usuman
While strolling on a cool evening
I came across this lad singing
"Nice voice, my boy," I complimented
"Mama is smiling." He responded.
Minutes ago, my legs accelerated fast
But this boy, they refused to walk past
I suddenly lost authority over my legs
For my command fell on deaf ears.
So I had no choice but oblige them
While the lad asked if I needed help
"What is it you sing, my boy?" I asked
"A tribute to my mama" was the answer.
"Mama gave her all to feed me
She struggled to make ends meet
Just when life began to smile at us
Fate came up with a different course
Mama is gone but I'm not grieving
She is obviously up there watching
For when my stomach grumbles for food
A stranger shows up with something good."
A very touching story behind the lad's song
Alas, I understood why my legs had stopped!
I did lend him some words of advice
Enjoy every moment, because time flies
And when life gives you a chance to laugh
Make sure nothing holds you back.
Night was approaching and I had to go
Promised I'd check on him the morrow
I was the next stranger to do him good
Though mine was way more than food.
And I could tell this was fate's work
Because this path I barely walked
I gave him a hug before departing
This was friendship in the making.
