GLADIATOR
I was tired from the battle
Battered bloodied and bruised
The buildings burnt down around me
The trees bearing scars
Their bark dyed red
From so many wounded and dying
As the dark clouds above threatened me
And yet I walked within the flames
With my head hung low
No remorse just void of feelings
As the heavens above opened up on me
Drenching my soul to the core
For my own redemption
As I watched those fires
Turn to nothing but smouldering pits
My blood stained body
Bare apart from what little clothing I had left
I had lost all of my armour in battle
As it had become the casket
In which I may die
Heavy and cumbersome
And yet I could find no happiness
In the victory of battle
Only sadness
That I would live on
To fight another day
