Loss of Innocence
Is there anything better then a newborns first cry
Or the laughter of children playing silly games?
When do they lose their innocence as time goes by
In an age after they learn the alphabet and names?

Is it when they choose their own trendy clothes to wear
Or the first time they get in trouble and are shamed?
Do they lose their innocence at the first word they swear,
Shocking parents and alike knowing a child can’t be blamed.

What defines innocence in the our highly strung world,
When some cannot externally seem to be part of it?
Do we define a special needs person when they are furled
As someone always bound by innocence even if they do fit?

Is a child’s innocence taken away by the evil presence
Of a person who cruelly put themselves onto the child?
When do we lose our innocence if life’s of a divine essence
Or is it when we break free from ‘normal' and become wild?

Is there such a thing as pure and innocent in this day and age,
When in some beliefs we are born already with the original sin.
How is it we lose our innocence despite the wise words of a sage
And sheltered from the outside world even from our other kin.

We all lose our innocence sometime in our time of living
Whether it’s taken from us by acts or we choose to rebel.
The temptations we eschew as a child are totally forgiving,
That we sometimes don’t know we lose our purity to hell.

The losing of innocence in a human is different for each one,
For we have alternate meanings to what is pure and white.
Only when we understand our emotions and what we’ve done
Does it reflect our loss of innocence whether wrong or right.
