The Current State We Are In

The days too eventually fell silent,
No sounds, not even by the crows,
All you could hear was the sound of stillness,
Fear knocking on the doors,
Shock appearing from the televisions,
Distance being the key to survival,
Days wore on,
So similar to each other,
Routine was the life we knew we had,
Trapped with the people we are so used to,
Wanting to have freedom,
Wanting to be alone truly,
Wanting to be with others,
Wanting to even have a slight connection,
To what it means to be a human,
Or to be within ourselves,
Alone with our thoughts and the things that we create,
Months wore on,
Progress was made,
But the devastation of the event,
Left scars bigger than we thought we could imagine,
And the scars themselves open up occasionally,
Inviting Death,
To the shoulders of those who doesn't deserve to die,
Like the others from the same cause,
Increasing in numbers,
Countering the recoveries made,
Tipping the scale and balance,
Overpowering one another,
We look behind this year,
Remembering the countdown to a new year,
Wishing the world a happy new year,
We say to ourselves, from before,
"You have no idea what's coming."
We shake our heads at this,
If only we knew what's coming,
Things would have been different,
For better or for worse,
For now,
We must wait for more progress,
Even if we pretend that life is going back to normal,
A "New Normal"
