বাঙালি ঘরে জন্ম নিলেন,
মধুসূদন দত্ত,
তিনি একজন কবি হবেন,
কেউ কি তা জানতো?
ওনার বাবা, রাজনারায়ণ,
খুবই বড়ো লোক, ছেলেকে নিয়েই,
স্বপ্ন দেখেন,
নিশি কিংবা ভোর।

কিন্তু একি হলো হায়!
সে যত বড়ো হয়,
বাবার কথা নাকচ করে,
অন্য পথে যায়।


বাংলা তার চোখের বিষ,
ইংরেজি তার মনি,
ইংরেজিতে আর শেক্সপীয়ারে সে তো,
মাতে বেশি!



তারপরেতে ,কবিতা লেখা
হাতে বিয়ারের বোতল,
ঝরঝরিয়ে কবিতা ঝরে,
ইংরেজিতে মত্ত।


হায়রে! সেই মধুসূদন, নিলেন খ্রীষ্টান ধর্ম!
রাজনারায়ণ, করলেন তাঁকে চিরকালের ত্যাজ্য !

তারপর এলো দুর্ভিক্ষ,
ভরসা এখন গৌর।
ছোট্টবেলার বন্ধুটি তাঁর,
সত্যি বড়োই অপরূপ।

সাহায্যের হাত বাড়িয়ে সে,
বললো মধুকে, "চিন্তা নেই, আমি আছি,
বিপদ গেছে কেটে।"
তারপরেতে কলিকাতায়ে তাঁহার আগমন,
চাকরিতে এবার নামতে হবে,
এটাই যা সম্বল।

কেউ কি জানতেন,
শেষে কিনা,
নিতে হবে কেরানির সে চাকরি!
রাজনারায়নের পুত্র কিনা,
করলেন সে চাকরি!

তার সাথে চলতে লাগলো ইংরেজিতে লেখা,
নীলদর্পন ও বাংলা নাটক,
হলো অনুবাদ।

অনুবাদ হলো ইংরেজিতে,
পেলেন প্রশংসা,
জানলো না শুধু, ইংরেজরা,
তাই যা বাঁচোয়া।

নইলে মধুসুদনের, চাকরিটি থাকতো নাকো
মোটে,
আবার পড়তেন মধুকবি ঘোর বিপদে।
খ্রীষ্টান ধর্ম নিয়েছিলেন,
তাই নাম হলো মাইকেল,
এই নামেতেই সবাই চেনে,
আজকের প্রজন্মে ।
মধুকবি বাংলা ভাষায়,
নিয়ে এলেন জোয়ার,
লিখে ফেললেন একের পর এক,
বাংলা কবিতা।

কে না জানে, মধু কবির,
"মেঘনাদ বধ " কাব্য?
ওতে আছে গদ্য পড়ার,
অসংখ্য আনন্দ।
কে না পড়ে,
সিলেবাসে "বঙ্গভূমির প্রতি",
যে পড়েছে, মুগ্ধ হয়েছে,
স্বাদ পেয়েছে,
চুপি চুপি।
তিনিই এনেছেন অমৃত্রাক্ষর, চতুশপদী ছন্দ,
এই নাহলে মধুসূদন,
আমাদেরই গর্ব!

Explaining in English : Michael Madhusudan Dutt was a great poet, also known as the pioneer of bengali literature, he was also a playwright and wasalso the first to bring sonnet in bengali poem. He was born in 18 th century in a Bengali family, his father was Raj narayan a rich man. That time India was under the British rule. So the schools and the colleges were used to run by them. Although he was bengali he used to hate his mother tongue instead he liked English. He took Christian religion that's why he was named Michael.He moved to foreign as his father refused him to be called him as his son, cause he had taken the Christian religion and then he suffered from poverty. Gaur Das Basak ( Gaur ) was a great friend of his.... who helped him in those difficult situation. Micheal married to a foreign lady Hanrietta and also took a job of a clerk.... but he continued his writing, and later he found attraction in his mother tongue. He wrote Meghnad badh kavya in bengali, which also known as Maha kavya . He wrote a bengali poetry,
" Bangabhumir proti. " (This poetry is inspired by the English poetry "My native land goodnight, By Byron, I don't know how many of u have read this English poetry). Well... it is the Bengali Sonnet. In Bengali, sonnet is called ( chotuspodi chondo )
which is in syllabus, even today also. Unfortunately he left the world only at the age of 50 because of poverty..... But still he remains in our heart and will always be. Well... Michael Madusudan Dutt was also a great follower of William Shakespeare . He used to read Shakespeare's play the most and also used to drink beers, even when he used to write his poetry while drinking beers. U will always found him with a pen in one hand and a beer bottle in his other hand. We call her Modhu kobi, Michael Madhusudan Dutt.

PS: So there are lots of information I have gathered from a book " Shei shomoye " written by the bengali writter Sunil Gongopadhyae.... this book represents the society of India in 18 th centuary.... Hope u will enjoy the explanations my dear readers.
