Preach and Defend the Gospel

I was amazed when you denied God before man
By calling the Gospel impractical.
And I was pained to hear you say
We must learn to become adaptable.
Then you slowly turned away from all of us
Who taught and preached the good news.
You complained that He asked too much of us
And you were sick of being used.

Jesus said we would face abuse
And be persecuted for our faith.
He said we should expect trouble
And that we would be betrayed.

We’ve seen brother fight against brother
We’ve seen a father give up his child!
He told us we would witness these things
He prepared us to be reviled.

He asked us to stand our ground,
And to preach and defend the gospel.
He asked us not to betray Him.
But He never asked us to be
adaptable.

Look at the moon; it's giving no light.
And the sun has darkened before our eyes
The ground is shaking beneath our feet
And the stars have gone dark in the skies.
Jesus said when we see these things
It’s a sign He has gone to The Father.
But His work on Earth isn’t finished yet
So we cannot afford to falter.

Soon, our Lord will come back in the clouds
With great power and in His glory.
And for those of us who refused to adapt
He will complete our redemption story.
