Get me a seat among the poor
That I may wine and dine in love
Not in the midst of some rich folks
With pride beneath their cloaks.

Oh, don't you despise the poor
For they're rich in nature
Their happiness doesn't cost much
Can the rich ever measure?

Tis a gift the poor has harnessed

So, get me a spot among the poor
Set the table and put the music on
Let us eat and drink in one accord
Tis a place where I truly belong.
