I was a senior in high school
when within the first week
of school starting
this freshman girl
I never knew
committed suicide
I attended her candlelight vigil
as if I knew her
when really,
I knew her pain more intimately
My ideation was her reality
In my mind then
(which was a terrible thought)
I thought she was braver than me
because she faced one of my fears
But I guess not fearing death
doesn’t mean you should
succumb to it
It does not lessen its evil
What’s sad is,
I don’t even remember her name
