THE FORTUNE TELLER
The wind howls.
Is it a mere greeting
Or perhaps a warning to
Turn back while you still can?
Dark clouds start rolling in,
Adding to the already
Eerie and gloomy atmosphere.
A sign of something brewing.
Hesitation starts creeping in,
Fear not that far behind,
As you think about where
You're going right now.
Lost in your turbulent thoughts,
You fail to notice that you're
Nearing your destination.
A house so far from town.
It can't be seen from the trees
So it's easy to overlook,
Unless you know exactly
Where to go.
There, in the heart of
The deep dark forest,
Protected by many spells,
Lives the fortune teller.
You heard of her by accident
Or was it really just that?
You heard of a woman able
To see one's future.
Usually you wouldn't believe
In such nonsense.
There's no way someone can
Predict what'll happen to someone!
What made you continue listening
Is something that made you freeze,
A sentence that might have sealed
Your still undecided fate:
"Anyone who went to see her was
Never heard of or seen again!"
What rubbish, you think to yourself,
Yet you wondered if perhaps what
They're saying is actually true.
Did she kill all those people?
That's how you found yourself
In front of her door,
Having second thoughts
About your decision to visit her.
Knock, knock, the sound
Echoes through the vast forest.
You wait patiently for the door
To be opened.
"Come in, child, come in!
I've been waiting for you!
It was written in your future
That one day you'll visit me."
A rough female voice could
Be heard coming from the house.
You took deep breath before finally
Opening the door.
Inside it was dark,
The only source of light
Were candles strewn around.
A scent of incense filled the air.
There she sat, the fortune teller.
Behind her round table
Where a crystal ball was placed.
She beckoned you to come closer.
As you got closer,
You took the time to
Look her over,
To find anything unusual.
A maroon scarf wrapped
On her head covered her
Messy long black hair,
Falling over her eye.
Big gold hoops dangled
On her ears.
Gold chains and a single gold-coin Necklace around her neck.
The jewelry complimented
Her slightly dark skin.
Her eyes were what stood out
To you the most.
They were bright, so bright.
An intense golden color.
Eyes of a deadly snake,
Your mind whispered.
She wore heavy makeup,
Giving her eyes a smokey look.
Pink blush high on her cheeks,
Cherry red coloring her lips.
"Take a seat, don't be afraid.
Nothing bad will happen to you."
She said, yet her smile old a
Different story.
"Now let's see what your
Future holds.
Let's discover the secrets
Of the unfamiliar!"
With those words
She closes her eyes
Relaxing her whole body,
Her breathing is steady.
Silence falls upon the room.
Nothing except the sounds
Of the forest outside
Could be heard.
After a few minutes,
Her eyes open slowly.
Her hands reach for the
Crystal ball in front of her.
With her fingertips
She touches it lightly,
Concentrating on the
Images forming in her mind.
A candle placed on the table
Starts to shake slightly.
It feels as though an
Earthquake has started.
Suddenly her eyes snap open
And her eyes fall upon the ball,
As if what she sees there is
Something important.
The scent of incense grew
Headier than it was when
You arrived here.
Your head starts aching a little.
Then, out of nowhere,
Mist forms all around you.
Where did it come from,
You ask yourself.
"Hahahaha oh my, oh my,
What do I see here!
Such a young life about to be
Snuffed out and so soon!
AHAHAHAHAHA!"
The fortune teller says,
Her laughter chills you
To the bone that you don't
Register her words...
Until it's too late.
Where once sat a woman,
Now a big snake appeared,
Hissing and coiling.
A terrifying sight to behold.
You sit frozen,
Never taking your eyes
From the snake that turns
Out to be the fortune teller.
Your gut feeling was right,
Yet you didn't listen to it.
Remembering the stories,
You regret never believing them.
There's no escape.
Your fate has been sealed
The moment you stepped
Into the snake's lair disguised
As the fortune teller's house.
Outside, it started raining.
Thunder and lightning decorating
The dark sky, signaling the
Beginning of a horror happening inside.
Never to be seen,
Never to be heard of
Ever again.
Silenced forevermore.
