Etched
You may try to forget me, but,
I'll be there, in places you want me not,
In the pages of your book,
As well as your closet, and
You'll remember I once held your heart.

You may try to silence those voices, but,
I'll be the chirping of birds at dawn,
As well as the storm in the desert,
I'll be the whispers of the wind,
As well as raindrops in the silent night.

You may try to run from it all, but,
You'll see my face in everyone you pass,
Pictures of me your head will create,
Songs I sang you'll remember,
And in your head, my words will echo.

You may try to erase me, but,
I left my footprint on your doorstep,
And when you try to wash your hands,
You'll remember I once held them close,
And never again can you be alone in your house.
