Life's Voyage (2/2): Sandy Shore
The sun beats down on me
As I drift along the open sea
Thoughtless kicking brought me to the surface
And now I ache to be free

Once a confident ship
Now only floating debris
I hold on for not-so-dear life
Rescue is no guarantee

Shattered remnants of the man I used to be
My person is damaged and beyond repair
The battered radio is worn out and distraught
All it can emit now is a hollow prayer

Locked in a room by myself
Starved and depressed
Or lost alone at sea
My emotions still suppressed

No sight of land yet
Vultures circling overhead
Waiting for a hand to reach out
Though I'm as wary as I'm misled

Reality is tearing apart
My stars begin to dance
Potential salvation has arrived
It's time to take a chance

Afraid but desperate
I extend a trembling hand
Hoping to feel the touch of another
As liberating as the beach's sand

My sunken ship has been discovered
I've been brought back to the shore
My vultures and demons have left me be
My feelings resurfaced, though slightly sore

As I reminisce and recollect
Having reached my plateau
I think back to the abyssal ocean
There really was only one direction to go
