He said to me

With an exaggerated sigh, as he looked up into the sky,

“Anna, you cannot see the Forest through the trees”

I looked up at him standing; sweaty
On his lofty ladder,
As he was Looking down at me...
As if I were a masterpiece of disaster.

“YOU cannot see the trees through the Forest”

He shook his head,

“Nope doesn’t work like that,
You can’t just flip my words”

Puzzled but still looking up,
my nose crinkled as I used my hands to shade the sun,

“But I can and I think I just did.
YOU’re missssssing the scenery!
All this individual gorgeous greenery.
All you see is a green canopy?!
What about the squawkin' birds,
The buzzin bees...
The flowers, the spiders, ad infinitum.
I could go on and on and on..."

Working as I spoke,
He stopped, looked down at me...
Eyeballs met eyeballs,
Grins grinned at one another,
Mischievous...
He smiled his smile.

“I know you could, Anna.”
