THAT HE MAY LIVE
They have come
Hurrying against one another
Some against the other have collided
Yet they came hurrying to the unknown
Assembled to build a horrifying spectacle
The Anthill upon the Savannah stood
Neither facing east nor west
Neither facing north nor south
The sun upon it shone
The rain drenched it, yet it stood
Not minding the weather
But alas! The tornado struck
The skies became cloudy
Down the valley roads . . .
Yes, the valley roads, the tornado caught up with him
Sapping him of his conscious mind
Wrapped like a baby in its cot:
. . . Delicate
. . . Fragile
He is sent to the West for repairs
Repairs of the broken ribs
Repairs of the fractured bones
That he may live.
