To The Year, 2020
WritcoPoemChallenge
#CoronaVirus
The days too eventually fell silent,
No sounds, not even by the crows,
All you could hear was the sound of,
Fear knocking on the doors,

With chills running down your spine,
Holding on to your breath, knowing your life's on the line.
Wasn't it a couple of days ago when we hugged each other?
Fistbumping, handshaking and all manner?
It's been only a few hours...
And we're scrambling for space, away from one another's face

The year came with a whole bunch o' surprises...
The dawning of a new morn, and now, this,
Left us with wounds, that seem very hard to heal.
A little in your account, but cannot find yourself a meal.
"It's a Lock down..." Presidents declared.
All for a disease we saw coming, yet unprepared.

'It is better to prepare than to repair', a wise man once said,
Now the harm's all done,
Lives lost, sacrifices made, but still a cure for none.

A cough, a sneeze, fever and an ache in the head
Struggling to take in air, while they look on, Dead!
With every oxygen inhaled, there's a strife in the lungs,
Upon which lives are hung.
Not longer than a day, and the sufferer wishes for a bullet through the brain
Cos this, is an unbearable pain

Give me a genie, and I'd wish this pandemic will no longer be
Take us back to the days where we found dear mercy
Back to when we loved each other without barriers
Back to when guns were not an option for healthcare
When our doors stood immune to fear
And we could see ... beautiful crows dancing in air.

Dear 2020, please let your remains bring a merrymaking year.
