A Soldier's Daughter
I remember when i was little, a man would come home
And my mom would welcome him with so much cheer
He'd try to carry me but i would hesitate in so much fear
So I'd keep my distance and only get to stare at him
Wondering when he'd leave and let me and my Mummy be
Then the days would go by, he'd become my best friend
Buying me sweets, making me happy was the only trend
Then i got used to saying "Daddy" as he took me everywhere
And a certain day i'll wake up not to see him anymore
I'd ask Mum and she'll say "He had to answer duty's call"
I'd cry for the next few days wondering when next he'll come
And I'd feel better some days after
Since I thought of him as a Masquerade
Then the memory of him again would start to fade
He would come again then the same story would repeat
He was a Stranger I knew would come again indeed.
