Old Souls
Old souls still exist like Elias and I.
We cannot return, though we try and we try
to live like they did in the decades before
and hold to the values of people of yore.
The friends in our age group are desperately few.
Our interests in life are a different view.
Fifty and more is the age group we know
though we’re in our twenties, still thirty below.
We treasure the pieces that come from the past
and keep them in shape so they last and they last.
The snowshoes, the dishes, cast iron in all styles;
the records and singing bring both of us smiles.
The putt putts, the lanterns, the pinball...
