Smoke was in my eyes,
As you walked down the aisle.
What I didn't realize then
Was that there would be
no more tomorrows.

Our love would never have a chance,
Because of an unforseen circumstance.
But I will always remember
your precious smile,
And I will never forget
How you would have stayed
right by my side.

I couldn't comprehend
That time was incapable
Of erasing the smoke from my eyes,
Considering my emotions have died,
And presently I can no longer cry.

I can recall the moment
That you told me goodbye;
You whispered that things
were changing,
Yet you would always walk by my side.
(Well, that was 30 years ago).

My heart hurts & breaks
Whenever I imagine your smile.
For that, I've lived my life alone,
No one could ever take your place.
I'm so tired & despondent
From missing you, baby.

I've shed all the tears that I'm capable of,
And I no longer have any dreams
to hold.
The memories of us together
have faded into darkness;
And I'm incapable of recalling
your precious, beautiful, face.

I can't endure the thought
Of any more dismal tomorrows
Without you standing by my side,
Like you did at our wedding;
Plus the last week following.

Tonight I won't have to wait for you;
To kiss, or talk to you,
Or share my secrets, plans,
And dreams with you . . .
Because tonight I'll be with you.

I know the loneliness & pain
Will be a thing of the past:
Something to be long forgotten,
And lying dead in the shadows
of our undying love.

My pretty Sweetheart,
Welcome me tonight
As you did on our honeymoon;
And let our souls drift away
In the calmness of our love.
