DON'T SLEEP
"Don't sleep. It's early. Read me a few more pages. So that you won't forget me."
Says a book to me. Every night. Without fail. Just when sleep overwhelms me. And I reply,
"Don't worry. I won't forget you. Never. I won't forget books. As long as I am conscious."
The book smiles. Books around me smile. Because my reply and their question stay same everyday.
As long as I am conscious, it's a steady relationship, between books & me.
"Don't sleep," I request my books. And then I slip into sleep. Every night.
And they are awake, my books.
