The Hermit of Ecclesbourne Glen

EcclesBourne Glen by rock-n-ore  where a hermit lived, but lives no more, a lonely life, no not at all as friends he had both big and small.

The fox that runs so fast and free, the squirrel who gathers nuts from the Hazel tree, the owl  who sleeps till day meets night, then spreads its wings in nocturnal flight.

To live on the bounty of nature's store foraging limpets and muscles from the rocky shore, for  this was  the life lived by he as there was no place he would rather be.

From the golden glow of the sun's first rays in solitary persutes he spent his days, studying nature's glory from plant to tree, and  sitting  on the cliffs  looking out to sea.

Fourteen years would pass this way, the night met the dawn and the dawn met the day. The hermit sang and danced round the old oak tree as never a man had been so happy and free.

But sadly the life of the hermit is no more as he passed away at the age of 74,  even though his earthly body  has gone it's said his spirit still lives on.

For when  the moonlight bathes the woodland floor, and the waves are crashing on the rocky shore, the hermit and his friends you just might  see, as they dance round the old oak tree.
