it’s in the drop of a text
that the baby is dead
and before that was the to-do list

and at the end
before hitting send
you ask how my day is

and I cannot fathom
how with this sadness
comes such casual conversations

but this is the era
of Prozac and where a
laugh can dismiss an observation

so ask me again if
I am okay and
it’ll be an honest conversation
