October Wonderland
In this troubled land,
Full of politics and lies,
When disappointment sets in,
I find it hard to disguise,
That it troubles me,
Everyone so easily swayed,
Telling mistruths,
With a goal to get paid.
Over cold fall evening,
I went to find peace,
In a field full of gourds,
Hoping it my reprieve.
Trying too decide,
Which I want to take home.
Putting them in a circle,
Of sorts, then something unknown,
Appeared there before me,
A shimmering light.
Nothing there to be seen,
It was somehow dark as night.
Wonder and curiosity,
Guiding my feet,
Reaching out slowly,
To the strangeness before me,
When abruptly it pulls,
And I cannot resist,
The world starts to spin,
As if ceasing to exist.
I notice the pumpkins,
In that same circle pattern,
But now they're lit up,
Carved into Jack O'Lanterns.
The sky is lit up,
By this giant full moon.
What the hell happened?
I needed answers and soon.
Cornfields were there,
In rows more like mazes,
And huge pumpkin patches,
Taking up other spaces.
Daylight had obviously,
Pulled closed its curtain,
I wasn't afraid,
Though my location was uncertain.
It seemed that fate,
Had granted my wish,
Halloween Town,
Might truly exist.
Half expecting to find,
Tim Burton lived here,
Or showed up like Santa,
But for Halloween every year.
Was this the veil,
That was always thinking.
This place felt like home.
I couldn't help but grinning.
It was all so macabre,
Was that a river of blood?
And pumpkins in places,
Of where lamps normally would.
A dark, spooky forest,
There in the horizon,
Likely, spooky to most,
But to me was inviting.
Still, there's no sign,
Of these denizens of darkness,
Didn't know what I'd find,
But I have to confess,
I felt just...
