You hurt me in ways most people will never know.

My scares are on the inside haunting me wherever I go.

You made me believe I was worthless and undeserving of love.

I always ran away frightened when push came to shove.

I sometimes dreamt I was a bird so I could just fly away.

In my dreams you would clip my wings so I had no choice but to stay.

Control was your weapon and fear was your favorite game.

Everytime you would hurt me I thought I was to blame.

As I slowly got older I could finally see.

You had a fear of your own and that fear was me getting free.

I took the pain you inflicted and used it to stay alive.

What I'm saying is you are the reason I have all of this drive.

You gave me an example of what I never would be.

I used my to help others finally get away free.

So I guess I'm saying thank you for who I am today.

To others you do have a choice and they can't make you stay.
