Uncle Coley

Beating the sun up every morning,
Breakfast fit for royalty,
Lucky Strike cigarette in mouth’s corner,
Ford F150 on the curb.

Ice cream treats in the freezer,
Except for the bowl set aside,
A heart that only I could melt,
Forever there to defend.

Provider, builder of shelter, fought for his country,
Protector, Veteran of World War II,
Bringing home forever a piece or war in his body and in his mind.

Country boy at heart, farmer, hunter, drinker,
Husband, father-figure and uncle,
Builder, believe and the true meaning of “a man”,
Happy Father’s Day!
