Windmills in the Park
The weather’s getting colder,
and it won’t be long ‘til dark,
but I told her I would show her
there are windmills in the park.
You wouldn’t think there could be
since they’re getting pretty old,
erected there last century—
both landmarks, I am told.
They used to pump the water
for the fountains in the lake,
but when we went to war they
took the metal parts away.
I’ll go and buy a sandwich
and some wine I know she’d like
and put it in a basket.
We could ride there on my bike.
She really ought to see them
‘cause it’s magic when they twirl,
near 48th and Lincoln.
They’re the biggest in the world!
It’s getting late to phone her,
and it won’t be long ‘til dark,
but I told her I would show her
there are windmills in the park.
