If She Were A Poem
If She Were A Poem

If she were a poem
She might be a haiku
Kisses over dimples, simply;
I love you

If she were a poem
She would make the sky
obsolete
And illuminate the shadows keeping pace
at her feet

If she were a poem
She would remind me of a
young Nikki Giovanni
She would be courageous
In her search to find me
And when she did,
we would be a syncopated beat
layered with a groovy harmony
Perhaps even a stanza; delivered from
experience and memory
A compensatory offering for a feathered
tar baby
If she were a poem
She'd be a singular tear, oblique
If she were a poem
I would hide, hidden between stanzas, lines and ideas
And she would protect me.

If she were a poem.
