Caffeine

Once upon a time, I held you in high esteem,
I looked forward to every sip and savored every taste,
I got addicted,
You became my caffeine,
My coffee with no sugar,
Like a cup in my palms I held you and protected you,

With each passing time,
I took in more of your bitterness,
I lied to myself all would be well and there'll be sweet and honeyed days,
It never came,
You turned bland and sharp,
Burning my words down my throat,

Giving no room for moral justification,
I loved you too much,
I got addicted to Poison,
Bitter sweet poison you were my love,
Now you're gone,
I drink to your demise,
Coffee would never taste the same without you in mind.
