Love’s Lament
A tear falls softly, chilling my skin,
I wake in confusion, where do I begin?
My eyes scan the room, so cold and so bare,
Machines all around, their hum fills the air.

“Why am I here?” I question, confined,
Wires and tubes leave me entwined.
I can’t move, can’t speak, just stare in dread,
Until my gaze falls on him, my husband, so led.

He sits by my side, pale, full of fear,
Tears on his cheeks, his voice unclear.
He clasps my hand, as if it could mend,
Begging the night for time to extend.

“Wake up, my love,” he pleads with a sob,
