PRIDE - MY DOWNFALL
"Take heed when you think you stand, lest you fall"
Those were the last words of WISDOM
That kept ringing in my ears
As my eyes were filled with tears
Looking down the steep sloped mountain
I wondered, how I came this close to losing the fountain
That Fountain called Grace

A while back I was just a common floor member
No shield, no sword
Not your knight in shining armour
Yet was forced into a battle I thought I wasn't prepared for

The goal was to reach the highest point at the top
This meant we couldn't afford to make a stop
And that wasn't the least easy at all!
The battle at the foot of the mountain was so fierce!
With every 500 arrows the enemy shot
At least 400 of our men were pierced
The sight we beheld was gruesome
But we knew we had to move on

By the time I reached the top of the mountain
I was so thirsty I found myself gulping from that Fountain
That Fountain called Grace
Once again, I felt alive
And knew I was ready for the next phase

Now I had my shield, I had a sword
I was the glorious knight in shining armour!
The others marvelled at the glory emanating from my body
This was such an honor
For them to behold my beauty

Every corner was illuminated by the glory from my armour
Then Pride set in
A trait I had once strongly abhored
But it was too late, I guessed
To find myself a cure

I was the knight in shining armour after all
My glory and beauty everyone around me adored
The next phase will be easy, I was sure

Bedazzled in my little moment of glory
Wisdom appeared to me saying
"Put on this cloth and follow me slowly
You seem to be losing track of the purpose of this journey"

Reluctantly, I draped it over my shoulder
Slightly disgusted by its lack of color
The closer I put it to my armour
The lesser the brightness blindening my sight
And only then could I see clearer
The destruction of this glorious knight was nearer

I, the knight in shining armour
Stood only a step away from the edge of the steep sloped mountain
And the enemies hiding in the dark awaiting my fall to destruction
With terror and trembling
I sought from Wisdom what this drab cloth was supposed to be
"The Cloak of Humility", He said

Then, and only then did I realize my foolishness
I had been consumed by my pride
Forgot my need for a guide
Lost track of the goal
Would have been damned should I have lost my soul

"Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall. Take heed when you think you stand, lest you fall". The final words of Wisdom as He departed.

Down on my knees, I cried out to my King of Kings
' Have mercy upon me!
And consistently clothe me with your cloak of Humility!
Open up my eyes so that I will always see the destruction from my pride
And always run to Thee
Soak me deep in your Fountain of Grace
And help me Lord till the day I can see Your face
Save me from myself
Save this damned soul
Have mercy
Oh Lord! on this wretched soul called *ME*'
