The Colours Of Pride
"Or would you like it a gentle royal blue?
Extremely rare, see the hint of midnight hue?
You look into it and your past looks back at you
The times you danced with youth in dripping morning dew
You were naive and candid and untainted
Running free, curiosity and innocence amated
You caught fireflies in jars and bragged of them to your friends
And also that one lizard you presented to mama and made her scream and curse
Payback for making you eat veggies last night
For a minute there, you forgot the big man's might
But papa didn't fret, he patted you on the back
Laughed for the first and called you a real jack
The feeling he suddenly showed that he knew you exist
You locked in your heart, didn't let it amiss
Now if anyone tries an ambush, a targeted attack
You show them that feeling, the utter elevation, knowing you are for sure a real jack.
I can see you're taking a liking to the glow of jade
This one is priceless, no hope to be handmade
It took a hundred dynasties to put it in a jar
And a hundred more to keep the jar from falling apart
Yet it is such a simple, fleeting feeling
A game that those who have loved have chance of winning
It is what Mother feels gazing upon her baby
As they took a first step, then more, then so many
Each one taking her baby farther away
It is what Mother feels gazing upon her daughter
Majestic and beautiful, strutting toward the altar
Tears stream down, she never thought she'd see the day. . .
The feeling comes again, much later
She sits in the midst of the kids' bicker and banter
A smile on her face, she wouldn't be in any other place.
Knowing she had tilled the soil well and sowed seed, she closes her eyes
As the product of her labour blossoms and spreads, taking over the blue skies.
