"Echoes of Love" by Loyd Davis Jr
"Echoes of Love"

In the quiet of the night, where shadows blend, I hear the echoes of love, a father's silent plea. The road stretched out before me, winding and endless, Yet my heart remained tethered to you, my family.
Through miles and miles of asphalt, under star-strewn skies, I carried your laughter, your dreams, and your tears. Each truck stop a reminder of the life left behind,
And the ache of being both present and absent through the years. Homecomings were bittersweet, like faded photographs, Where familiarity met the unfamiliar, and love wore a veil.
I yearned to bridge the gap, to be more than a stranger, But the road had etched its map upon my soul, an unyielding trail. And now, as the world turns harshly upon me,
I find solace in memories—the warmth of your small hands, The promise I made, etched into my very bones, That you'd know childhood's joy, untouched by life's demands.
But life, relentless and unpredictable, took its toll, And I stand here, weathered and worn, seeking refuge. An aneurysm threatens, yet my heart's greatest ache remains The loss of you, my children, my legacy, my refuge.
You tell lies, they say, and turn away like seasons, Yet my love endures, unwavering, like the North Star. For in the vast expanse of pain and separation, I still see you, hear you, feel you—no matter how far.
And though my grandchildren may never know my embrace, May they inherit the whispers of love carried on the wind. For a father's heart, flawed and fragile, beats eternally, And in these verses, I honor the bond that time cannot rescind.
