Outsider

Slowly yet he trudged on,
Down magnificent dark pathways
Through vacant rooms with lights neon
Cobwebs hung from hallways.

He looked around several times
He shouted out names of so-called friends
Masked strangers who had once guaranteed
Their unwavering support and help.

He looked in front,
But did not find the end to the dark passage-way
Instead he saw gloom and darkness
Ever-increasing with every step.

The expensive chandeliers hung
Gleaming and bright
In his neighbour’s hallway.
He saw the flurry of guests
that had just arrived there
And it made his heart ache.

He had earned his own money
To buy his bread and butter
And colourful electric lights
As he had hung them in the forefront
Everyone had praised them
Thinking he was more than fine.

Yet just like his empty house
With no soul but he,
Was the incomplete void in his heart
That no one knew but he.

We saw glittering chandeliers in the neighbour’s house
And the colourful lights in his balcony
Too late did we realise all,
That those lights were like a mirage.

For those who are wondering who these mysterious people are,
Here’s the spoiler hint
The place was called B-town
Where he was an outsider.
