It was never her intention
to fall in love,
she was only there on a mission
and then depart.
He never knew at all
that some day
the courting would sadly end,
how his heart ached when she
turned down his offer to marry her.
She knew she was a spy,
and felt it wasn't fair to lead him on,
that her loving him would be a lie.
When he discovered her identity,
He sat facing her, wanting to be sure
and asked her one last question,
"Did you ever love me at all?"
