Scratching The Surface

Shadows grow longer
Shortened sunlight stings my eye
Tired days
Sleepless nights
Summer blooms fade in this masquerade
Artificial flowers resiliently remain
Watering will not make them grow
I don’t talk about it
All for show
A one-sided conversation
Pulls the petals one by one
Butterflies only scratch the surface
Actions aren’t temporary
We only hear what we want
We disregard the rest
Ahh but the real
Those who choose to feel
Flaming flowers dressed with splendor
Trampled daily by foot
I get through the friction of the day
Cut
Wilted
Wounded
Still stirred to make a difference
I still choose to love
Tomorrow
I will bloom again
I don’t lose heart
I will love
Until my last breath
Whether I feel it
Or not…
