If I had the Money to Buy a Car
If I had the money to buy a car
It would have to run this race so far
On the forgotten hopes and dreams,
Hidden in my heart.

Going 60 over at 3 am,
Racing down the boulevard of broken goals
Chasing the high that no one else knows
Right behind the next mark on my dashboard.

To tell you the truth, I have to say
once I'd get close to empty,
In that someday situation,
That pedal would hit the floor, chasing home
Racing towards the boatman's throne,
My heart beating faster than the world going by
Remembering the things I wished I'd done
The unfulfilled tally before I died.

Those last few moments,
Exhaust and gasoline
A New Year's kiss at 200 kmh
Shattered glass and broken dreams,
If I had hope enough to buy a car
No amount of money could afford
The drugs and gasoline to take me home,
To bring me back to the stars
And nearer still, to your heart.
