Steps
Less-traveled wanderings, speaking music
Wearing our worries like amulets of air
Won’t you sit in the blue shade awhile?
We’ll grow ours greener than that other-side
Picnic blanket checkered red and white
Grit our smiles through cold heartaches
As each acoustic string echoes thunder
Will you be patient with my foolish heart?
Two-stepping barefoot across sandcastles
Dancing with silent shadows, wistfully
Saltwater cleansing these tired scars
Where’s your mind been, dear starlight?
Feels like ages since cherry-blossoms
Drifting slowly in the pacific breeze
We’ve both got our war stories buried
And maybe our novel’s ink has run dry
Acceptance tastes like bittersweet coffee
Do you still take yours the same way?
The strings find an amp, strumming along
As do our ambling feet; persisting through
Our paths may never intersect again, dear
But let’s not give up on taking our own steps
