Sweet Regret
I knew a girl once
Who played idly
With her braids
As she sat keen
In the very first row
Of our high school class.
I wish I had not
Fallen in love
With her quiet charms
And eager heart.
But I did still,
Only to never find
The courage needed
To tell her just once
How she made warm
My bleakest days.
How in my darkest night
She was the bright moon.
First love, unfading stays
In hazy past, a sweet regret.
