Reverie
I remember
everything
that made you
who you are
to me;

what makes you laugh
the way that you do,
how your auburn eyes
become pools of honey
in the light of the sun,
and the way you prefer
your morning coffee.

I remember
what hurts you
that you used to toil over
until I became man enough
to make it all better again.

I remember
how big your dreams are
and the stones we paved
to make them a reality.

I remember
the promises
that we made,
and I remember
that only one of us
ever really kept them.

I remember lying awake
restless and exhausted
from explaining why I am
the way that I am
in hopes that
your behavior
would change.

I remember
that none of this
even matters, really,
in the grand scheme of things.

I love you.
I made a choice
back then,
and I'm making
the same choice
now.

You are for me,
still...

and I am for you,
always.
